Hello Readers,
This blog is a part of Web Quest activity on Harry Potter series given by Dr
 Dilip Barad.

  1. Feminist reading of Harmione’s character

The term ‘Feminism’

Character of Hermione Granger.

Hermione as strong female character

Anti-feminist reading

Hermione as intelligent
Female characters are not ambiguous. They are either solely on the good side or the bad side.

Hermione is helpful and capable female character who seems more intellectual and follower of rules of Hogarts school.

Hermione is much intelligent in megic than male character, she teach Ron how to use wand
2) Discourse on the purity of the Blood

Mud-blood or half blood.

Pure blood

Pure blood as superior and half blood as inferior

In Harry Potter a Squib is a non-magical child born to magical parents and good. JK R\doesn’t trat them very well at all Bieng a Squib is the worst thing you van be in the wizarding world, this is an issue that purebloods and half bloods can both seems to agree on.

Mudblood’s a really foul name for someone who is Muggle-born you know, non-magic parents. There are some wizards like Malfoy’s family who think they are better than everyone else because they are what people call pure-blood, I mean the rest of us know it doesn’t make any difference at all.

3) Confronting reality by reading fantasy

Fantasy and Reality in the character of Harry Potter.

Fantasy vs Reality to a Satanist.

Potter books are not Reality, they are Fantasy. As Fantasy, they pose no threat to anyone who reads them, even to the most enthusiastic. Because the stories are just Fantasy, they will not cause anyone to actually go into Witchcraft.

Adults see in Harry Potter a fairly conventional supernatural adventure story

Harry is being raised by an aunt and uncle who are dumb, stiff and uncomprehending and who treat him with stingy cruelty.
4) The discourse of Power and Politics

The Ministry of Magic

Equality and prejudice

Racial discrimination

The Minister of magic has an incredible amount of power with very few ways of ensuring it is used properly.

Dobby has never been asked to sit down by a wizard.
The theme of keeping ‘Pureblood’ wizards in a place of power is central to the plot of the Harry Potter series.

5) The theme of Choice and Chance

Choice of Harry Potter

Importance of one’s choices and the inevitability of one’s morality

Harry chooses to risk winning the Triwizard tournament in order to ensure that Fleur’s sister is safe.

all of the characters – not just Harry – are absolutely defined by their choices throughout the series. And all of them are given a chance at redemption through these decisions – yes, even those who we may write off as evil.
6) The theme of Love and Death

Love of Friends

Death of important characters

Love of Harry and Ginny.

Love of Rone and Hermione.
Accepting death.

At the very beginning of the story we hear that Harry’s parents have died, and in due course both we and Harry learn that they were murdered. The shadow of death hangs over Harry; he learns that he, too, was intended to be a victim, but spared in a way no-one can explain.

Lily’s love for Harry Potter and Rone, Hermione, Harry and Ginny’s love for each other.
7) Moral and Philosophical reading

Appearance doesn’t matter
Power of patience
Power of Goodness
Harry thought that Snape was out to get him because he treated him unfairly and he seemed old. In reality, the quivering Quirrell was hiding Voldemort.

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times”

Draco and Snape are motivated to dark acts through good intentions, many "good" wizards are guilty of prejudice and moral weakness

8) Christianity and Harry Potter Series

Religious debate

Objections to Harry Potter
Harmless
Witchcraft is a government-recognised religion and that to allow the books to be held in public schools violates the Separation of and state

The objections are based on the Bible teaching that practicing witchcraft or other occult acts is a sin.

The Harry Potter books are actually a Christian series just like the The Chronicles of Narnia series and the Lord of the Rings series
9) Children’s Literature and Harry Potter

Unrivalled in Children’s Literature

Adventure
Hero’s quest

The Harry Potter series is a true blockbuster, one that is unrivalled in children’s literature.

It is very important to bear in mind Peter Hunt’s considerations because, as this author suggests, the children audience is more complex than the adult one and requires a special treatment:

Rowling’s sharp wit, humour, and imagination are unrivalled in children’s literature. After Uncle Vernon refuses to give Harry a letter addressed to him, a series of letters somehow find their way into the house, exasperating the uncle.
10) Self-Help culture and Harry Potter

Unauthorized self help book

Power is in what you give, not what you can do

magical wand is a sign of self help

Harry Potter fans to help them better cope with psychosocial struggles

Tom Riddle was a half-blood wizard with a troubled childhood which lead to significant mental health issue. he had an insatiable need for power and extrem hatred for all muggle and half-blood wizards

A witch with whippy wand might learn spell faster than a wizard with a rigid wand, but the wizard with a rigid wand will have more spell strength once he finally master it.
