"Aeshvaryam Yuva Manthan" Youth Festival 2018

Hello readers,

We have three days 26th 27th and 28th October youth festival in our MK Bhavnagar University "Aeshvaryam Yuva Manthan" organized by Takshshila institute of science and commerce. So, this blog is a part of task activity given by our professor Dr.Dilip Barad sir in which we have to write on events which we were attended and try to interpret with various literary theories.

Here are the events list which I have attended.

1) Kala Yatra
2) Poetry Recitation
3) Mime
4) Mono Acting
5) One Act Play
6) Skit
7) On the spot painting, Collage and Rangoli

1) Kala Yatra: opening ceremony of youth festival begun with Kala Yatra in which various colleges took part and presented their themes. There were total 18 to 19 themes are presented, more than half of themes related to Indian Culture, students gave their hundred percent to impress people through their themes but I liked two themes among them, one about Nine rasa by KPES college because students wonderfully presented nine Rasa with gestures and other is LGBT theme by Shamaldas College in which they gave message about LGBT people, they also a part of our culture so they try to evoke society through their theme.

2) Poetry Recitation:
Poetry is a beautiful form of literature because according to Samuel Coleridge a poet should be a philosopher and refined spirit. For poetry one has to develop many thing like imagination power, metrical sense, metaphorical language etc. So, I have listened all poetry and tried to connect with western poets' definitions like Coleridge, Wordsworth, T.S.Eliot and I.A Richard about the poetry. All participants tried well to compose poetry but I have found 5 or 10 percent characteristics of the poetry in their creation. The subjects of the poem are About the power of pen, About Friendship and on Diwali. Most of the students wrote their poetries on these subjects. Most of the students believe that poetry means rhyme scheme, if you put rhymes then it is poems but this is not true about poem. Many students wrote in this way, they didn't think about the contents. Poet should be a man speaking to man and he or she has knowledge about human nature and psychology. In addition, most of the students do not follow theory of depersonalization given by Eliot because many students connect their own self with poetry in all kind of subjects. Moreover, large number of students used metaphoric language in the poems some compare pen with various kinds of things like with sword, speaking history, love, life, beloved etc. Similarly, some students metaphorised friendship with natural elements and I have seen different imaginations on friendship. At last I want to say that poet not become but poet will born because we know that spontaneity of the poem in Wordsworth and spontaneity in these students are very different. We can put the theory of Structuralism also because most of the students got ideas from the structures of well known poems or poets like the Krishna's peafol wings from whatsapp message etc.

3) Mime:
This is also an interesting and very difficult form of art. In this art we have to convey our message to audience without any kind of dialogue. It is about your body language and various kinds of gestures and postures. In this event many colleges performed mimes on the theme  of Indian Mythology like Mahabharat, Ramayan and couple of theme on Ashoka. So, somehow the topics of the mimes were traditional but very well presented. I haven't found any modern theme in the mimes mostly connected with myths and common but we feel Catharsis from these arts. I liked its sound system, it is not easy to make gesture along with music. So, it was eye opening mime.

4) Mono Acting:
Mono acting also wonderfully performed by artist. I have seen only three. Monologue is my favorite form in literatures. I like monologues of Dr. Faustus it is evergreen for me, which I have studied in my 1st part of master degree. All three acting somehow criticized patriarchal power and women humiliation in which I liked 3rd acting by my classmate. She performed the role of lady hawker in which she used countryside dialect superbly. In this acting she presented two types of role comic and emotional, audience have felt catharsis through this acting.

5) one act play:
One act play is the major event in literary part of Youth Festivals. It is not pure drama, according to Aristotle, drama should have five acts but now a days dramatist not follow the Aristotelian concept of Drama. Now a days from one act play to five acts play all are the part of Drama. In the present Youth Festival many colleges came with unique concept. I have watched four one act play including our department of English one act play "સિક્કાની ત્રીજી બાજુ"(third side of a coin) in which I also performed a minor role. It was about third gender then other two one act play also performed very well one was "Bruhad Samhita" and other was "Ha mujhe Fakhr hai." All four one act play have some kind tragic theme, full of catharsis and somewhere the element if Hamartia have found. Among all I liked "Ha mujhe Fakhr hai" by KPES college because it was very unique and new concept on Kashmiri soldier Aurenzeb. It is based on real story of Aurengzeb and Jammu & Kashmir, choice of sound and performed along with music also have plus point of that one act play. Yes but many one act play do not follow Aristotelian concept like unity of time, unity of place etc.

6) Skit: on 28th final day of youth festival I watched six skits related to different themes, this form of art is not easy task to perform because in 10 minutes artist have to present entire message of the skit through various scenes. Mostly, all skits presented in a satirical comic way. Colleges came with current issue of India like LGBT 377 verdict, Clean India, adultery, etc. Among all I liked "Baccho ki Najar se" and the skit on Swachh bharat because they satire society and people in comic way. So , it was good experience of watching skits.

7) Rangoli, Painting, Cartooning, Collage and Installation:

Again, on final day of youth festival, I have attended Exhibition of these all arts. In Rangoli, all Rangoli were traditional but one from my department was mixing of traditional and Digital world. In on the spot painting, there were many paintings related to #Metoo movement and about digital world. Students drew advantages and disadvantages of digital world and some painting about traditional classroom and Smart classroom. Collage and Cartooning also very interesting related to current issue in satirical tone. I didn't find and modern arts like art of Dadaism and Surrealism. At last, all arts were conveyed very good messeges to society through these arts.

Installation also very interesting art in which all colleges made art from garbage. In which I liked many but one I liked most art of installation is in following photos in which I have seen the concept of Waiting For Godot because there were Hat and Boots stand for Vladimir and Estragon.
