A session with Dr. Jay Mehta on Poe's Short stories

Hello readers, this Blog is about the guest lectures in which as always our professor Dr.Dilip Barad sir keep on inviting many scholars of different fields. So, we have 18th to 22nd September 2018, lectures on Poe's short story by Dr. Jay Mehta former student of The Dept. Of English MKBU.

  • My learning Experience:- No doubt, Jay Mehta sir has mastery in teaching Edgar Allan Poe's short story because he done his PhD in Poe short stories. So, we can say that he has good knowledge about Poe and his stories. A day before session, he gave us very interesting task based on our real life and related to Poe's characteristic of Poe's story like you ever got anger or feel murderer? Do you believe in Ghost or not so on. To read pre-thinking task click here

He has sessions on the following stories but unfortunately I attended only one short stories due to some reason.

1) The Tell Tale Heart
2) The Black Cat
3) The Fall of the House of Usher
4) The Cask of Amontillado
5) The Purloined Letter
6) The Gold Bug

I have studied one story is "The Tell Tale heart" in which jay Mehta sir started story from audio clip. It was very good selection because the tone of the voice was fully appropriate to the words of the story in which we can feel the terror and horror kind of feelings. The teaching style was very interesting because we couldn't feel boredom because sir had various examples and approaches to teach this story. I liked the teaching method of Jay sir because he was explaining the story with psychoanalytical perspective and reality based examples. So, it was very interesting session with sir but rest of the short stories I was unable to attend but here is my classmate Reena's Blog about other sessions on the stories and it is very well drafted reviews of her learning: To read review of all the sessions click here
